So here it is: how consignment works at Why Go Less, our consignment store in Dekwaneh, Lebanon, from the moment your items arrive to the moment you get paid.
Step 1: Intake and inspection
Bring us your items, or let us come to you. Pickup is free anywhere in Lebanon for batches above $400 in estimated value, and free within 10 miles of Beirut for batches above $200.
Every item is inspected by hand. We check condition, authenticity signals, and saleability. Two rules never bend: we only accept items worth at least $1, and we never accept hygiene-sensitive items. If something does not pass, we tell you why, honestly. What we accept spans women's clothing, dresses, kids and baby wear, electronics, home accessories, and sports equipment. Step 2: Your quotation
After inspection, you get a quotation: the price we believe each item can sell at. The quotation is valid for 7 days, and you are entitled to one counter-offer. If we agree, your items enter the pipeline. If we cannot agree, you take your items back with zero hard feelings and a better sense of the market.
Step 3: We do the work
This is where consignment earns its keep. Once accepted, every item is:
- Cleaned and steamed, so it presents at its absolute best
- Photographed properly, not phone-flash-in-a-mirror
- Tagged and listed on whygoless.com with an honest description, flaws included
- Marketed in-store, online, and to our Instagram audience at @whygoless
Your items go live in collection drops every 15 days. Drops keep the store fresh and give buyers a reason to check back constantly, which is exactly what you want as a seller.
Step 4: Pricing over time (the markdown ladder)
Second-hand pricing has one enemy: an item that sits. Our markdown ladder keeps things moving, and you know the schedule up front:
- Days 1 to 30: full quoted price
- After 30 days: markdowns of up to 30% off
- After 60 days: markdowns of up to 50% off
- At 90 days: we send a return notice for unsold items
No silent discounting, no mystery. The ladder is the same for everyone, and it exists because a sold item at a fair markdown beats an unsold item at a proud price.
Step 5: The split and the payout
Commission is a flat 50/50. Half the sale price is yours, half is ours. That one number covers everything we do: inspection, cleaning, steaming, photography, tagging, listing, marketing, and selling. There are no listing fees, no hidden deductions, no fine print.
Payouts start from 3 days after your item sells, always in USD. You choose how to receive them:
- Cash pickup at the store, free
- Whish or OMT transfer, minus a 2% transfer fee
- Store credit, valid for 6 months, if you would rather turn your old closet into a new one
That last option is more popular than you might guess. Plenty of suppliers sell their unworn pieces and walk straight over to the dresses or tops rails to trade up.
Why sellers choose consignment over selling it themselves
Could you sell your items yourself on Instagram or a marketplace app? Sure. You would also be the photographer, the copywriter, the negotiator, the delivery coordinator, and the person answering "is this still available?" at midnight.
