Store credit has a bad reputation, and usually it deserves it. Too many shops treat it like a consolation prize with fine print designed to make you forget it exists. At Why Go Less, we run it differently, because credit that people actually use is credit that keeps them coming back to a store they like. So here is exactly how store credit works at our consignment store in Dekwaneh, with zero mystery.
The basics, in plain language
- Validity: store credit is valid for 6 months from the day it is issued.
- Where it works: both in-store in Dekwaneh and online at whygoless.com. Same credit, either door.
- What it is not: cash. Store credit cannot be exchanged for cash, and like everywhere in our policy, there are no cash refunds. Prices and credit are in USD.
That is the whole rulebook. No expiring-faster-than-you-think tricks, no in-store-only asterisks.
Side one: shoppers and exchanges
Second-hand shopping in Lebanon comes with a built-in truth: every piece is unique, sizes are one-offs, and sometimes the dress that looked perfect on the hanger tells a different story at home. When an exchange is due under our policy, store credit is how we make it painless. Instead of forcing an on-the-spot swap for something you feel lukewarm about, credit gives you 6 months to wait for the piece you actually want.
And at a store where new consignment drops land every 15 days, 6 months means roughly a dozen fresh waves of stock will pass through before your credit expires. Your odds are good. For electronics, the window is tighter and specific: exchange or store credit within 1 day for verified defects. Fashion is patient, circuits are not. Full details live in our return and exchange policy.
Side two: suppliers who convert payouts into credit
Here is the part fewer people know. If you consign with us, you earn a flat 50/50 split on every piece that sells. Most suppliers take that payout and are happy. But some of our smartest suppliers do something else: they convert their payout into store credit and go shopping.
Think about what that actually is. You clear out pieces you no longer wear, and you walk back onto the floor with spending power at a curated second-hand store. Your old blazer funds your next one. Your closet becomes a self-refreshing system instead of a growing pile. If you want the full picture of consigning with us, our supplier terms spell everything out, including the markdown ladder and payout schedule.
How to use store credit well
Credit is only as good as what you spend it on. A few honest strategies:
- Spend it on structure. If you are holding credit and unsure where to point it, tailoring is the highest-value move on our floor. A great jacket upgrades ten outfits at once. Browse the blazers and jackets collection first.
- Watch the drops. New stock every 15 days means the best use of credit is patience plus attention. Follow @whygoless on Instagram so you know when fresh pieces hit the racks.
- Do not sit on it. Six months is generous, but it is not forever. Credit spent in month one buys the same amount as credit spent in month five, and month-one-you gets to wear the clothes for four extra months.
- Use it online too. Cannot make it to Dekwaneh this week? Your credit works on whygoless.com. Check what is new with tags from your couch.
Why we built it this way
Why Go Less exists on a simple idea: second-hand shopping in Lebanon should feel smart, not like a compromise. A store credit system with a real 6 month window, valid across both our store and our website, is part of that. It respects your money, gives you room to choose well, and keeps good clothes moving to the people who will actually wear them. That is the whole business, honestly.
Come spend it, or come earn it
